Ceramic Pet Fountains

!: Ceramic Pet Fountains

With the increased popularity of pet fountains in recent years, the companies that manufacture them have come up with new and improved ways to make these pet accessories fit into the home better. The early versions of these fountains were mostly plastic water bowls with a small pump and perhaps a filter to take debris out of the water. While those very basic types of fountains are still available, there are other versions that are much more stylish and functionally improved.

Pioneer is one company that has really pushed the envelope as far as pet fountain design goes. The most popular version of their fountain is perhaps the ceramic fountain. This unit is dishwasher safe, and is made in a unique tear drop shape. If someone walked into your home and saw this unit placed on the counter, they might easily think it was a piece of home decor rather than a pet accessory.

Other ceramic fountains are available from other manufacturers, and a few come in a larger, rectangular shape that makes them perfect for a home with multiple pets, especially cats. Ceramic is also a great choice for cats because plastic can cause cat feline acne. The use of a ceramic fountain or bowl will prevent your cat from picking up this acne.

No matter which fountain you choose for your pet, be sure it has some kind of filtration system. In most cases this is simply a foam filter or screen that is placed in line with the water flow. As the pump pulls water through the system, it is forced through the filter so any hair or food debris can be screened out before the water flows back into the main fountain bowl.

With the large number of available options in fountains, it pays to take some time to learn a little about each type so you can make the right decision as to which is best for your pet and your home. If you are planning on keeping your fountain in a remote place like a closet or garage, you might be able to get away with one of the least expensive options.

On the other hand, if you plan on placing the fountain in a more public area, perhaps a ceramic pet fountain is the perfect choice for your home and pet!
